We are looking for an experienced database engineer with an operations background in building operationally sustainable solutions for data storage and streaming platforms. Our team’s mission statement is to “provide tools and expertise to solve common operational problems, accelerating and simplifying product development.” As part of the team, you’ll be working with a variety of data-related technologies, including MySQL, Kafka, and Redis, in an effort to transform these technologies into platform services in order to further our mission.
NOTE: this is not a ‘data scientist’ role, rather this role is to help design and build datastore-related platforms for internal stakeholder groups within Company. See more below for role expectations.
This is an opportunity to build the services and systems that will accelerate the development of Company's cloud features. Services will provide highly available, operationally elegant solutions that serve as a foundation for a growing product base and serving a global audience. This is a high-impact role and you'll be working with a large variety of product engineering teams across the company.
What you'll be doing
- Administering, operating, and tuning MySQL databases
- Delivering managed data platform solutions as a service to facilitate adoption and operational elegance
- Collaborating with product engineering and infrastructure teams to drive adoption of services
- Instrumenting and monitoring services to ensure operational performance
- Creating tooling and automation to reduce operational burdens
- Establishing best practices for development, deployment, and operations
- Interacting with developers and teams to resolve site and database issues
What we'll expect from you
- Experience supporting MySQL / Percona Server / MariaDB in production environments
- Proven track record developing and automating platform solutions for engineering teams
- Familiarity with data technologies like Kafka and Redis
- Fluency in SQL, Python, Bash, or other scripting languages
- Experience with Xtrabackup, ProxySQL, MySQL Orchestrator, SQL query tuning, and Linux performance troubleshooting
- Proficiency with configuration management tools like Chef & Ansible
What we'd love you to have
- Understanding of Kubernetes and Hashicorp Consul
- Familiarity with CI tools such as Concourse and GitHub Actions
- Some experience with Go readability
- Passion for resilient production engineering
- Desire for automation to avoid repetition

- Routine handling of mundane support tickets
